Want Pfriends With That?
Dearing Elementary has partnered with Pflugerville ISD and Aramark to encourage meal participation with its “Bring a Friend to Breakfast” program. The elementary school with the greatest increase in participation will win an ice cream social or a “Build Your Own Waffle Bar” party. My advice—waffle bar!

Local Business Spotlight: Yaghi's New York Pizzeria
If you’ve ever wondered where Pflugerville gets its fix for that perfect foldable, thin-crust New York slice, head to Yaghi’s—they’ve been stone-baking them fresh since 1999 right off FM 685. The team behind it (family-run with locations across Central Texas) starts every pie with house-made sausage, meatballs, and sauce, then piles on generous toppings without skimping on quality.
Locals keep coming back for the classics like pepperoni-sausage-jalapeno or the spinach roasted garlic chicken pizza, plus wings, calzones, and salads that actually taste homemade—not chain stuff. The vibe is no-frills takeout joint (grab a 2-slice lunch special for under $10), perfect for game nights, kid soccer teams, or just Friday feels when cooking sounds impossible.
Yaghi’s is the kind of spot that’s become a quiet staple as Pflugerville grows. Check their menu!

This Week in Pflugerville History (Feb 18-23)
On February 19th, in 1904, Pflugerville took a big step from scattered farms to real town.
February 19, 1904: George Pfluger (1834–1910), son of founder Henry Pfluger Sr., and his son Albert (1878–1969) platted the official town site, laying out 16 blocks, streets, alleys, and depot grounds for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad from local surveys.
Same year: Otto Pfluger (Henry's son) built the town's first cotton gin, sparking economic growth just as the railroad connected Pflugerville to Austin and beyond.
1906: Farmers State Bank opened with William Pfluger as president—Pflugerville's Pflugers were everywhere, turning family land into community institutions.
Context – Austin area: The MKT Railroad's arrival fueled suburbs like Pflugerville, while Austin's population hit ~22,000 amid oil booms and university growth.
That 1904 plat is why Main Street exists today—George and Albert's vision made room for the Pflugerville we call home.
Those are the highlights of life in Pflugerville this week!
See you on Tuesday with more local news, events, history, and businesses worth supporting.
