All Around Pflugerville

Hey Pfolks, welcome to the week of March 16, 2026.

Spring Break is here, St. Patrick’s Day is today, and we’re still riding out Stage 3 water restrictions, with some unfortunate updates—but there’s plenty of pfun to be had close to home.

Also this week:

😳 Stage 3: ANOTHER Water Line Break

The City of Pflugerville is still under Stage 3 emergency water restrictions, and as of Tuesday, March 17 a fifth break in the raw waterline has stopped flow to Lake Pflugerville yet again.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not thrilled with this news.

All City water customers are being asked to cut back even more: no outdoor watering, plus extra indoor conservation like reusing clean gray water when possible, turning off taps while brushing or washing, catching rainwater for non‑drinking uses, and delaying laundry or dishwasher runs.

For the full list of rules, maps, and live updates, check the City’s Stage 3 information page.

Not sure if you’re affected? All City of Pflugerville Water customers are. Check this map if you’re not sure if you’re on city water.

👮🏽 Flock Cameras in Pflugerville

You may have seen mentions of Flock cameras popping up around Central Texas. Pflugerville has a contract worth $73,500 annually with Flock and has since 2022.

  • These are not the license plate reader cameras, but are instead the Flock Condor cameras, which do not

  • They were requested by Pflugerville Parks and Recreation to deter theft and vandalism

  • It does not seem as though there are currently any city guardrails against what is captured and saved, how the data is used, and sharing of information

  • There are citizens working on a proposal for putting in place said guardrails

It’s worth reading through this Reddit thread with detailed notes from the March 10th City Council meeting for more details. Whether you agree with using Flock for surveillance or not, it’s worth being informed and having your voice heard.

🍀 Missed The Bagpipes at Prost Last Weekend?

You’re in luck! From 7:00pm to 8:00pm on March 17th Silver Thistle Pipes, a marching band that performs Irish and Scottish music, will be marching in Katherine Fleischer Park.

Even though it’s technically not part of Pflugerville, Katherine Fleischer Park is minutes away over by Wells Branch.

So get your corned beef and hash and come on out. This event is free and for all ages.

Local Business Spotlight: Chicos Ice Cream

Artisanal Ice Cream Mixing Traditional & Innovative Flavors

Picture this: The pre-summer heat is bearing down on you. You’re sweating. Vision blurry. Looking for an oasis where none can be found.

And then suddenly…

I scream.

You scream.

We all scream

Too dramatic?

I say not dramatic enough. After all, since today had a low of ~43° you’ve probably lost your heat tolerance. And we’re expecting temperatures in the high 90s later this week.

Add to that the fact that Spring officially starts on Friday (March 20th), plus the kiddos are on Spring Break right now…and there’s a non-zero chance they’ll be running around screaming at some point.

Luckily, there’s a 100% chance ice cream is delicious.

So why not grab a mango sorbet, milk shake, or scoop of one of Chicos’ 50 flavors of ice cream?

“We seek to be a meeting place for families, friends and lovers of good food, creating unforgettable memories and promoting cultural diversity through our products.”

OUR CITY
Historical Pfacts: From One Little Tower to a Thirsty City

It probably won’t shock you to find out that when Pflugerville was settled in 1849 there was no water infrastructure. But that wasn’t a big deal, since the city’s population didn’t even get to above 500 people until about 1970 and people were able to get by with wells up until then.

In fact, the first water tower (pictured above) wasn’t even built until the 1930’s, and it only held 50,000 gallons of water. It’s kind of crazy to realize that it was the only elevated water storage all the way until 1985—especially since the census in 1990 put the Pflugerville population at a suspiciously convenient 4,444 residents.

This first water tower was decommissioned in the 1990s. And now, if you try to use the Pflugerville water tower as a landmark, you’ll probably notice that we actually have 5 water towers, and no one knows which one you’re referring to.

These are slightly bigger than the original and can hold 4.6 million gallons of water. In addition, Pflugerville has the capacity for 6 million gallons of water in ground storage.

While that might sound like a lot, residents and the city use more than 5 million gallons per day (MGD)! The recently added temporary bypass waterline is able to supply 8MGD from the Colorado River and will definitely solve this for us. We had our 5th water line break today and so Lake Pflugerville is not currently getting fed more water.

However, due to drought, Lake Pflugerville, our water reservoir and main source of water (developed in 2005/2006 and which can hold up to approximately 554 million gallons of water) is hundreds of millions gallons short from sustainable levels—especially heading into Summer.

This leaves our water source at a shortfall that might take 60+ days to recover from. Good news is that we’re continuing to invest in water infrastructure as we continue to grow.

TLDR; Don’t expect a green lawn this year…we’ll be in stage 3 water restrictions for quite a while.

VOLUNTEERING
Opportunities to Give Back & Get Involved

Spring Break is also a good time to sneak in some good deeds between park days and pub crawls. Here are a few ways to plug in locally:
